If you’ve ever needed to wear glasses there’s a good chance you will have heard of Specsavers.
Founded in the UK in 1984, the company delivers high quality, affordable optical and hearing care via partnerships with nearly 2000 locally-run stores across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Their award-winning Retail Learning Design team are tasked with designing and building online and classroom-based learning events for their 22,000 colleagues worldwide. The work is varied, ranging from the creation of online classroom sessions, through to shooting and editing videos, and creating infographics and animations.
With multiple projects on the go at any one time, the team were using spreadsheets to manage their resources, but we all know what a headache that can be. Jamie Egan, Retail Learning Design Team Manager explains: “Shared spreadsheets are open to human error mistakes and the spreadsheets getting locked out or corrupted. Also, it isn’t possible to simply drag and drop when you need to move your bookings”.

Realising they needed a better way to manage their resources, they started looking at new options and decided to try Resource Guru. The experiment was a success.

Rather than trying to fight the limitations of spreadsheets, the team now manage projects, meetings and time off quickly and easily on a powerful drag and drop schedule. “Resource Guru is simple to use and maintain. We get a clear sight of who is working on projects, and when they’re busy or available.”
Resource Guru has made the resource scheduling process much more efficient, with Jamie estimating that he’s saving at least 6 hours per month compared to their spreadsheet system. Even small changes in process are adding up: “Quickly adding projects and resources – it sounds simple but I can now schedule resources while I’m on a call or in a meeting”.
